To Grasp the Movement of the Sun
After traveling to Svalbard during the Midnight sun, I will be returning three years later to experience the Polar Night. This ongoing project is a multi-compositional archive tracing the histories, environment and overall experience of the Arctic through the passage of time within both its history and rotation of the sun.

Bones of a Whale

The Arctic
As a participant in the Arctic Circle Residency, I joined a group of 33 artists and scientists sailing aboard a tall ship along the coast of Svalbard, Norway, to 80° North, at the edge of the pack ice near the North Pole. The twenty-day expedition allowed for visits to historical sites, from the whaling era to Svalbard’s World War II Nazi occupation. We engaged with various sea ice, glacier, and land environments, where I collected approximately 250 field recordings and 200 photos. Over the past year, I have composed 120 minutes of music exploring various Arctic themes specific to Svalbard, using a compositional process that synthesizes sound, visual art, and improvisation.
