Improvisation

Video

Two First Time Meetings in East Asia

In Summer 2025, I embarked on my first tour in East Asia that spanned across South Korea into Hokkaido, Japan, reaching down to Kobe, central Honshu. During this tour I collaborated with local musicians in each city, including guitarist - Tetuzi Akiyama, percussionist - Kikanju Baku and saxophonist - Sunjae Lee

Improvisation is the core of my practice and artistic process. It is the foundation in my development in sound as both a performer and composer. Improvised music has also built a global community of fellow artists who have greatly inspired and informed who I am as an artist today.

Located on this is a video archive of select documentation from spontaneous music and pre-composed form with improvised elements with various collaborators.

Mutual Mentorship: Birthing bright bright

In 2021, I collaborated with Berlin based Turkish vocalist, Cansu Tanrikulu to produce a commissioned work that was born out of improvisation, but evolved into a conceptual art video. The text portion was inspired from my english translations of a audio dialogue, recorded by Cansu. I do not speak Turkish, yet the unexpected humor of the ear with its interpretation of words play into the role of (mis)communication and cultural dissonances of english as a perceived dominance.

Our remote collaboration culminated into a live freely improvised set, September 2022, at Roulette Intermedium as a part of the Mutual Mentorship Festival.

Midwest Connections
In March of 2024 and 2025 I completed two tours in the Midwest connecting with each local scene's most active improvisers.

Below are video documentations of a freely improvised set in St. Louis, and a set of composed music using indeterminacy processes in Chicago.

A decade of New York City

For a majority of my early career I was active in the New York City improvisation and jazz adjacent scene working with my own band of hybrid composed and improvised music, as well as freely improvised formats. Sadly, I do not have much documentation of my performances, but below are two projects that also resulted in full length albums.
